Choosing a More Sustainable Logistics Partner to Help Benefit Our Global and Local Communities
The team at Leo Cancer Care are working hard to build upright radiation therapy and radiology solutions that are built for the economics of the future and will ensure that patients and clinicians can have and provide the best possible treatment experience.
Leo Cancer Care prides itself on being “the more human way to treat cancer” and we believe that needs to go further than the benefits of our technology. That’s why we work hard to ensure that our partners operate in a way that benefits our local and global communities, part of our decision making processes for our supply chain partners includes an evaluation of their sustainability credentials and business practices.
Leo Cancer Care’s partnership with EBISS
We knew we needed to find a logistics partner that could help us move our products and also support us with exhibition logistics. We were aware of EBISS and knew that they had offices in areas located close to our offices in the UK and the US. When in conversation with EBISS, we were thrilled to learn that they work hard to improve efficiencies, decrease waste, minimise environmental impact whilst also increasing their use of sustainable products. They regularly reuse and recycle packaging and pallets wherever they can, and source alternative eco-friendly packaging items to minimise their carbon footprint and reduce their reliance on plastic-based products.
“The driving force behind Leo Cancer Care is to “find a better way”, to provide revolutionary treatment that will improve the lives of patients. For us, as their shipping and exhibition events partner, it is about continually striving to find a “better way” to help them spread the word far and wide to those who would benefit from their products and services. This includes improving efficiency in exhibition booth (or stand) designs, packing materials for equipment, or reducing environmental impact from various shipping methods. There is no one-off fix, but with our constant innovation and determination, we are always looking for ways that we can learn, improve, and consistently continue to find a better way.”
Wayne Forster, Managing Director at EBISS.
Using sustainable packaging in logistics
When packaging our items EBISS have used biodegradable bubble wrap, recycled fabric blanket wraps for delicate unpacked items that can be reused over and over again and recycled paper products for soft wrapping pieces that require it. EBISS have created bespoke softwood timber crates, designed to house each specific piece of equipment, which have been reused for repeat shipments, and are repairable should it be required. These crates are made from fast-growing, responsibly sourced EU timber and manufactured in the UK. Every crate is built to provide many years of protection for overseas shipments, and are also fully biodegradable once their lifetime of work is complete.
A modular tradeshow booth designed for reuse
EBISS have also supported us with the design of our recent exhibition booths that were seen at events throughout 2021. They created the booth using a modular structure that meant we were able to increase and decrease the size of our booth depending on the exhibition space we had available, without needing to build lots of different booths for each event. This modular design also meant that we were able to split the booth and rebrand it with our sister company, Asto CT, when needed. Leo Cancer Care is scaling up its booth design but will also be reusing parts of this modular booth for its events throughout 2022 to ensure minimal wastage.
Reducing emissions with a new electric delivery vehicle
Excitingly, EBISS have recently added their first all-electric delivery vehicle to their fleet. Depending on the shipment size, EBISS aims to use their all-electric van for local collections and deliveries wherever possible and due to our offices being nearby we hope to see this van collecting items from us very soon.
We are looking forward to working together with EBISS in 2022 to further improve our sustainable business practices in order to support our local and global communities.
